Marines to deploy troops to Sulu vs ASG

The Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) is set to deploy another battalion to Sulu to enhance military operations against terrorists, particularly the Abu Sayyaf Group.

Capt. Felix Serapio Jr., Marines spokesman, said the 8th Marine Battalion of the PMC’s 12-line battalions was declared “operationally ready” on Tuesday and would be deployed in Sulu’s operational area after a nine-month retraining and refurbishing program.

“This means that all the necessary skill sets for the Marines are enhanced, assets and equipment were repaired, replaced or provided, and the operational readiness of the unit is at its highest,” Serapio said.
