On Thursday, September 14, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service sponsored a press conference and “When East Meets West” cooking demo with four Indonesian chefs as part of the ongoing “USDA Council of Chefs” program. The cooking demo was part of an ongoing training program in which Chef Andrew Gold, Director of Student Affairs at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York, and Chef Jill Sandique, Lead Trainer at the USDA Culinary Theater in Manila, unveiled new recipes and taught the Indonesian chefs how to prepare them. The new recipes combined different American ingredients with traditional Indonesian ingredients and spices under the theme “When East Meets West.” [U.S. State Dept.]
