At least four provinces in Northern Luzon have been placed under Signal no. 3 as typhoon “Ramil” (international name: Lupit) continued to move towards the region, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Wednesday.
Signal no. 3 has been raised over Northern Cagayan, Batanes group of islands, Calayan Island, and Babuyan Island, Pagasa said. But Ramil has changed direction slightly, Pagasa said, noting that the typhoon is forecast to move west southwest of Aparri in Cagayan at 15 kilometers per hour, Pagasa said.
Pagasa said that Ramil was seen 510 kilometers east northeast of Aparri, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 210 kph. Signal no. 2 remains over the rest of Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga and Isabela.
Meanwhile, Ilocos Sur, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Benguet, La Union, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino,Aurora, Northern Quezon and Polillo Island remain under Signal no. 1, Pagasa said. By Thursday morning, Ramil is forecast to be 190 km northeast of Aparri, Cagayan or 290 km east northeast of Laoag City. By Friday, the typhoon is expected to be 80 km northeast of Laoag City and at 120 km west northwest of Laoag City by Saturday morning, Pagasa said.
