Quezon shootout arose from conflict between gambling operators in Southern Tagalog

LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Philippines — Reports have surfaced that the shootout in Quezon last Sunday — in which 13, including three members of the Philippine National Police, were killed — could be a territorial war between gambling operators in the Southern Tagalog region.

 

Police authorities in the Calabarzon – Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon – until Monday refused to give a definite answer as to what kind of group the government forces had encountered in Quezon, despite reports that it was a territorial dispute between operators of illegal gambling in the region.
