Chief Justice, kin can skip impeachment trial

MANILA (Updated) — Impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona and his family will not be compelled to attend and testify at his trial at the Senate, the impeachment court ruled Tuesday.

Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano moved to try and reverse Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile’s ruling to dismiss a request to send them subpoenas.

    He was ousted from his presidential seat in January 2001 with corruption charges right after his impeachment trial was aborted.
