Why did the hostage taker even know about his brother being arrested? Why did the hostage taker know anything abut what was going on outside the bus where he was holding hostages? The media needs to use restraint in situations like this,always. They should be held liable for the unnecessary deaths as a result of their ability and will to display all aspects of this situation during this crisis. News updates are good as the public has the right to know what is happening in their towns and cities but, in situations such as this where the hostage taker should be kept in the dark about what the police are doing to overcome and control the crisis are more important that keeping the public informed. These are well know fact about how to control situations such as this, yet the PNP was not able to exercise these principles during this event. Why it that? Is it due to lack of knowledge? Lack of skills? Lack of training?

I agree. To some extent, media should restrain themselves (since there is no law on news blackouts) especially if it means that this can save lives. How do you expect the authorities to formulate better strategies to solve a situation like this when their every move is available to public view and scrutiny?
