More light to stop crime on Jose Abad Santos Avenue in Manila

Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim led on Thursday the rites to light up one of the most crime-prone areas in the city.

Lim had more street lights installed along the stretch of Jose Abad Santos Avenue from CM Recto Avenue to Hermosa Street in Tondo.

The lighting of the major thoroughfare, he said in a statement, has been made part of the city’s urban planning and rehabilitation and all-out war against crime.

Lim pointed out that lighting up Jose Abad Santos Avenue would allow the residents and other pedestrians to pass through the area without fear of being accosted by criminal elements.

But he reminded barangay (village) officials to secure the street lights and prevent thefts and vandalism.

The mayor also sought higher police visibility in the area to prevent crimes, particularly hold-ups along Jose Abad Santos Avenue.

Included in Lim’s 11-point agenda for the city is the lighting and beautification of all streets, bridges, parks and other public places in Manila.
