Busboy Stains Famous Restaurant’s Good Name

It was a beautiful Chinese New Year evening. Most of the Filipino-Chinese families all set out to have dinner at famous Chinese restaurants around Chinatown.

My view on this particular restaurant suddenly turned sour when we started ordering. For such a huge restaurant, I couldn’t understand why they had the tables all compressed together leaving small pathways for the waiters to move around. My family & I sat on a table for six, and surprisingly, that was the only time the waiters/busboys changed the tablecloth. I was really turned off by this. They should have led us to a table which was all ready and a wider area. I thought all the bad service ends there, but boy, was I wrong! This awful busboy started the whole thing. He kept bumping everyone around, and laid the utensils & plates on our table NOISILY. I am very particular about people who handle silverware especially in restaurants. Of course, germs are everywhere. And given the prestigious name of this restaurant, you’d expect more than weird busboys carelessly handling everything! Even when he checked the tea pot, he almost smashed the tea pot’s lid!

Why do they let people like this work for them? I was keeping my cool the whole time. When the soup arrived, he grossly sniffed the steam which came from the big pot and said in a loud & rude manner, “Hmmmm! Ang bango ng sabaw!” (“Hmmm, the soup smells wonderful!”) When the rice dishes came, the table was already crowded. Another careless and rude remark from this busboy was, “Ang dami niyo namang kanin, Ma’am!” (“You ordered a lot of rice, Ma’am!”) That really ticked me off. Not only was he a careless, rude busboy but also a nosy one. This restaurant should really give attention to this problem. We received the most awful service that night. Personally, I don’t have any plans of going back there to dine in. Take-outs would be much better. Why? Because you get to eat comfortably sans the careless busboys, the limited space allotted for a table, and the slow and bad service of the restaurant.
