Endorsements Of Politicians For May 2010 Might Lead To Imprisonment?
The Commission On Elections (COMELEC) and Parish Pastoral Council For Responsible Voting (PPCRV) have already issued warnings that celebrities who are endorsing politicians be asked to take a leave of absence from their showbiz programs and shows for the entire duration of the campaign period. Many celebrities like Kris Aquino have already expressed their views on the said warning.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Kris says that this warning is a violation of her civil rights and in protest she is actually ready to be imprisoned in jail. She has even likened this ruling to that of the times during Martial Law when the people were prohibited to express their views and sentiments.
As of now there are lots of celebrities endorsing their politicos like Dolphy, Sarah Geronimo and Willie Revillame for Manny Villar. Sarah reportedly got about 20M for her endorsement although there have been no comments on this by both camps. Boy Abunda and Kris of course for NoyNoy and a host of other celebrities for their politicians. The print and TV ads clearly show the stars’ preference and where they side in the upcoming 2010 elections.
Politics and showbiz have a long history together and I doubt that the COMELEC and PPCRV can diminish this right away.
